Description

The lion is the symbol of the Tribe of Judah

The Holy City of Jerusalem is built on the patrimonial land of Judah’s tribe in the kingdom of Judah.  The lion is the symbol of the Tribe of Judah, taken from Jacob’s blessing to the tribes of Israel.  Jacob purposely called his son the Lion of Judah.  The lion is the king of the lions, a fearless hero considered the “king of the animal kingdom”.  According to tradition, King David and the Messiah are also descendants of the Tribe of Judah.  Jerusalem’s symbol is the roaring lion of the Tribe of Judah.

The Jerusalem Lion

In a giant and glorious piece exalting Jerusalem, the artist sculpted “Jerusalem’s Lion”.  The confident lion, ensuring the safety of the lion cubs and lionesses that depend on his prowess and his protecting them against falling prey was designed on all fours.  The lion’s mane, covering his back and neck, his teeth, claws and tails – all meticulously etched by the artist as a symbol and tribute to Jerusalem’s symbol.

The lion’s body is etched in familiar Jerusalem elements.  Beginning with the stones of Jerusalem’s walls, its staircases and doorways.  Characteristic Jerusalem roofs and windows on all sides of the “Jerusalem’s Lion”.  The lion’s paws are positioned on a giant brick resembling the bricks of Jerusalem’s walls.  Beyond being a valuable work of art, it is an eternal souvenir depicting the never-ending bond to Jerusalem.
