Bethlehem Mayor Maher Nicola Canawati and Municipal Council members Hanna Hanania, Raed Al-Salahat, and George Ajha received a delegation from the Palestinian Military Liaison in Bethlehem Governorate on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at the Municipality. The delegation included Colonel Engineer Ghaleb Farajallah, Director of Military Liaison, Major Basil Abdullah, Director of Operations, and Captain Milad Bassous, Deputy Director of Operations. The visit was to congratulate the Mayor on assuming his duties. The attendees expressed their best wishes to the Mayor and members of the Municipal Council for success in serving the city. During the meeting, prospects for enhancing joint cooperation were discussed, and mutual willingness to coordinate and provide support on various issues of common interest was emphasized.

Bethlehem Mayor Maher Nicola Canawati and several Municipal Council members, including Hanna Hanania, Nader Rachel, and Qasim Kanaan, met with the Deputy Commander of the Bethlehem District, Colonel Naseeb Hikmat, and a number of National Security Command officers. This meeting was held within the framework of strengthening cooperation and coordination between the municipality and security agencies, contributing to strengthening community partnerships, unifying efforts to serve the public good, and improving the level of services provided to the city’s residents.

Bethlehem Mayor Maher Nicola Canawati, along with former Bethlehem Mayor and current Municipal Council member Hanna Hanania, participated in the traditional procession celebrating the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The procession began at the Salesian Church and proceeded to the Church of the Nativity, where participants walked behind the Blessed Sacrament in a spiritual atmosphere, traversing the streets and alleys of Old Bethlehem. A group of priests, nuns, and crowds of city residents, as well as scout groups, also participated in the procession.

Bethlehem Mayor Maher Nicola Canawati and Municipal Council Member Daoud Salahat participated this morning in the regular tour organized on the first day of Eid at the Martyrs’ Cemetery in Bethlehem Governorate. They were joined by Bethlehem Governor Mohammed Taha Abu Alia, Deputy Director of the Governorate Police Brigadier General Ali Abu Subha, Deputy District Commander Colonel Naseem Hikmat, Deputy Director of the Preventive Security Service Colonel Mahmoud Salahat, Deputy Director of the Intelligence Service Colonel Zidan Naim, Secretary of the Fatah Movement in the Governorate Mr. Mohammed Al-Masri, and representatives of the security services. Everyone participated in the Eid prayer and exchanged greetings on this blessed occasion, in a patriotic and spiritual atmosphere that expresses loyalty to the sacrifices of the martyrs and reinforces the values ​​of unity and cohesion within the community.

As part of preparations for Eid al-Adha, Bethlehem Mayor Maher Canawati conducted an inspection tour of the city’s markets. The tour was attended by Bethlehem Governor Mohammed Taha Abu Alia, Director of the District Police Brigadier General Murad Qandah, Deputy District Commander Colonel Naseem Hikmat, Municipal Council members Hanna Hanania, Daoud Salahat, and Samir Abu Dayyeh, along with the Director General of the Governor’s Office, Saleh Sobh, and a number of relevant authorities. The tour aimed to monitor the progress of operations in markets and shops, monitor citizens’ conditions, and assess traffic conditions and vehicle movement to ensure a safe and orderly environment for citizens and visitors during the Eid holiday.

The Bethlehem Municipality, represented by its Mayor, Mr. Maher Canawati, and Municipal Council members Hanna Hanania, Hisham Al-Kamel, George Ajha, and Samir Abu Dayyeh, along with municipal engineers, conducted a field visit to Al-Saff Street. The visit was part of the initial acceptance of the project to rehabilitate internal roads in Bethlehem (Al-Saff Street), funded by the Municipal Development and Lending Fund. Engineers Ashraf Qurei and Anas Abdul Aziz, representing the Fund, attended the tour, along with Engineer Jamal Salama and Mr. Mohammed Dhuib, representing the Fund’s consulting office, as well as representatives from Shraim Contracting Company, the project’s executing company. The project includes the rehabilitation of Al-Saff Street, a 500-meter-long and 10-meter-wide street, including comprehensive infrastructure works, including water, sewage, and stormwater drainage networks, electrical wiring, new sidewalks, street paving, modern lighting, and tree planting on both sides of the road.
